Samsung Unveils Three New Wireless Security Cameras at CES 2012

Samsung WiFi inTouchSamsung Techwin America has just debuted three new security camera solutions at CES 2012, all of which are aimed at home consumers. One of the devices debuted at the show was the WiFi Video Baby Monitor and its WiFi Surveillance Camera. This combo is perfect for keeping an eye on your home and personal property. In addition to the WiFi Video Baby Monitor, Samsung also debuted its WiFi inTouch camera, which offers Skype integration for video calls directly onto your HDTV.

All of these devices also feature WiFi connectivity and are designed to make wireless video security and conference calling more easily available and accessible to a bigger audience.

The WiFi Video Baby Monitor and the WiFi Surveillance Camera both have the same features with slightly different designs. Both devices are IP-based cameras with a one-touch WPS button that allows for easy wireless pairing with your home network. In addition to that, you can also register your camera with SamsungSmartCam.com, which allows you to view your live feed via a computer, smartphone or tablet whenever and wherever you want.

The camera features an infrared LED lighting for recording in low light situations and a speaker and microphone are also included for two-way communication while audio and motion sensors can be enabled for automatic recording. The camera records at 640 x 480 resolution in H.264 format and all the footage is uploaded automatically to a secure YouTube account. The Samsung WiFi Baby Monitor and WiFi Surveillance Camera will both be available in March for $149 each.

The WiFi inTouch camera brings internet connectivity to your HDTV and features a wide-angle lens, HDMI out, USB port, WiFi connectivity and a QWERTY remote. The inTouch also integrates Skype video chat as well as apps like YouTube and Google News to your HDTV. The camera itself stands on its own without the need of a computer and is also capable of 720p HD video.

The camera is powered by a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor with a heavily modified Android Gingerbread kernel. At launch there will be a total of five apps available and Samsung is promising more in the future. The WiFi inTouch camera will be available to the public in March for a retail price of $199.

Samsung is hoping that this new line of wireless security cameras will make home security a lot more simple and affordable for your average user since none of the cameras require a centralized server or any additional equipment. The inTouch camera should help bring a lot of internet-enabled features to older HDTVs without the need for an upgrade, and users will also be able to use their existing Skype accounts on the inTouch, allowing communication with any user on any Skype-enabled device anywhere in the world.

Samsung SNV-5010 Approved for the European Railway Industry

Samsung SNV-5010Multiple recent tests which were carried out by two entirely different testing houses have resulted in certificates being issued verifying that the new Samsung SNV-5010 vandal resistant network camera line is physically able to effectively operate within the extremely demanding conditions of European railway trains and stations. The tests, among other things, included the ability to withstand extreme vibrations.

TUV SUD, out of Germany, carried out testing of the SNV-5010 in order to ensure that it was strong enough to be used at railway stations in Europe by complying with the EN-50121 standard. The other tests were carried out by SGS Korea Co. Ltd. in a separate test that allowed the issuing of a certificate of compliance with the EN-50155 standard, confirming the SNV-5010's ability to perform under rigorous conditions on board trains.

According to Senior Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd. Peter Ainsworth, "This is an important landmark for Samsung as very few cameras have been able to meet the required standards of the European railway industry and in particular prove they have the capability to reliably operate on board moving trains. The SNV-5010 is an excellent example of our ability to provide railway companies and organizations with robust and reliable video surveillance solutions which, although keenly priced, are packed full of technically advanced features offering tangible benefits to railway and trained operators."

The SNV-5010 is just the most recent product from Samsung's professional security products catalog to be tested and receive EN-50121 standard certification. The vandal resistant and fully weatherproof 1.3 megapixel dome camera measures 100 x 115 x 42 millimeters and is specifically designed for environments where there may be limited space. The camera utilizes progressive scan technology in order to capture sharp, high-quality video and also features license-free Intelligent Video Analytics, which has an optical tripwire as well as enter/exit direction detection.

Samsung Introduces Two New Dome Cameras

Samsung SCV-2081 Dome CameraTwo low-cost additions to Samsung's compact vandal-resistant dome CCTV camera line were released recently, the SCV-2081 and SCV-3081, both of which are compact surface-mounted dome cameras that have both indoor and outdoor functionality.

Both of these new models are housed in a highly durable die-cast aluminum chassis and both are also IP66 rated and capable of surviving sustained punishment. They also have a plethora of uses including uses at offices, retailers, parking lots, schools, hospitals or even homes.

According to Senior European Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Peter Ainsworth, "Although the SCV-2081 and SCV-3081 will operate effectively at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and incorporate all the key features other dome cameras in the Samsung vandal-resistant dome camera range, their price point is considerably lower than other models which are built to withstand much lower temperatures. As a result, the SCV-2081 and SCV-3081 make the perfect solution for those applications that are prone to attack or tampering, but do not suffer from extreme cold weather conditions."

As far as specs go, the SCV-2081 has a built-in 3.6x varifocal lens and also incorporates Samsung Techwin's W-V DSP chipset in order to give you higher quality color images at up to 600 TV lines color resolution. In addition to that, it also comes with Samsung Super Noise Reduction technology as well as coaxial control compatibility which allows the on-screen display menu to be accessed from the control room through a compatible DVR.

The SCV-3081, on the other hand, comes with a built-in 3.9x varifocal lens and has Samsung Techwin's SV-V chipset. This chipset shares all the advanced features of the W-V chipset with cameras with Wide Dynamic Range and Progressive Scan.
