TKH Announces New Pressurized Siqura PTZ Dome Camera Line

Siqura logoTKH recently announced the release of its new advanced Siqura PTZ dome camera line, a camera line that is capable of withstanding harsh environments. The new Siqura camera line utilizes a pressurized dome housing, ensuring airtight protection against excessive moisture, dirt and pollution.

The added protection offered by the pressurized housing makes the new Siqura line perfect for situations like seaports or highway tunnels, areas where corrosive elements wreak havoc on traditional security camera systems, severely affecting performance and causing unnecessary safety and security risks.

The Siqura pressurized PTZ dome cameras also have IP67 Ingress Protection rating while the housing is constructed of materials designed to withstand intense levels of solar heat. The pressurizing of the housing, primarily with inert nitrogen gas, prevents moisture, pollution and dust from damaging the actual camera.

These new cameras also include analog and IP options as well. These cameras are capable of making precision and expediency a priority thanks to their 400° per second preset positioning capabilities, 26x or 35x auto-focus zoom lens and 12x digital zoom. In addition to that, these cameras also feature a day/night IR-cut filter and backlight compensation standard for use in any type of lighting situations. The wide dynamic range functionality also ensures excellent video quality, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Each pressurized Siqura PTZ dome camera is also capable of quad-streaming, supporting dual H.264 streams as well as two highly configurable MPEG-2, MPEG-4 or MJPEG encoders. This type of flexibility makes it easy for these cameras to offer high-quality video while simultaneously streaming network performance. If that wasn't enough, these cameras also facilitate a wide range of migration paths within IP networks.

Short-throw projectors only require half the projection distance of traditional projectors. The projector can be placed just a foot or so from the screen. This is nice because it keeps the projector and screen near each other instead of having a long throw projector that people can accidentally block.

American Dynamics Unveils Illustra 600 Series

American Dynamics has just unveiled its newest product, the Illustra 600 Series. This camera series is a good choice for security directors who need high HD video quality in all types of lighting conditions. These mini dome cameras are also the choice of security integrators thanks to the free auto-configuration software and the hands-free remote auto-focus and zoom capabilities.

Other places these cameras are being integrated include banking and retail with security professionals in these fields interested in the Illustra 600 IP cameras for their unique facial detection capabilities. In places like banks and retail, where theft is one of the main hazards, facial recognition is key to discovering who robbed you and how to find them.

According to Senior Product Manager for IP Cameras at American Dynamics Steve Carney, "Capturing quality facial images is important, particularly in businesses that are monitoring places like cash registers, entrances and teller lines. Unlike other cameras on the market, the Illustra 600 has the ability to detect a face and increase the bit rate around it, without cropping out important background images. This unique handling of 'regions of interest' allows the camera to save on bandwidth and storage costs."

In addition to that, the auto-focus feature allows you to control the image and automatically focus on the area required without ever having to go to the physical camera to do so. This saves you a lot of time and money on every installation and can be easily completed with a simple mouse click. Also, the outdoor cameras in the series have a Theia wide angle lens option that provides ultra-clear views and avoids "barrel-distortion", especially at long ranges.

The Illustra 600 Series cameras are compatible with American Dynamics' VideoEdge NVR v4.01, HDVR and are also compliant with ONVIF standards, providing you with a greater flexibility in your choice of recording platforms. These cameras are available now in black and white, indoor mini-dome and IP 67 rated outdoor vandal resistant mini-dome form factors and are all available via American Dynamics' worldwide distribution channels.

Security Camera Terminology

Security Camera Technology
When you're purchasing a security camera, it's hard to know exactly what you're looking for. There are so many different terms association with surveillance systems that the average person probably doesn't know what they mean. That can making purchasing a camera or surveillance system a lot harder than it should be. In the event that you are purchasing a camera and need a little help with the language, here is a quick guide to 20 security camera terminology and definitions.

1. AES - AES stands for Auto Electronic Shutter. This is the ability of the camera to compensate for changes in light without using auto iris lenses.

2. Analog - In electronics, there are two different ways to represent data: Analog and Digital. Analog represents data by measuring a continuous physical variable as a voltage of pressure.

3. Bullet Camera - A bullet camera is a camera that is essentially shaped like a bullet, and often a less expensive choice when choosing a security camera.

4. CAT5 - Cat5 stands for Category 5 cable, which is often used in networking applications.

5. CCTV - You may see CCTV often when looking for cameras; this stands for closed-circuit television.

6. Dome Camera - Like its name says, a dome camera has a dome-like shape and is often used indoors. Features often include infrared lighting and they are often tamper-proof.

7. Field of View - This is basically what is visible to the lens of your camera and that will vary based on the distance of the camera from its subject or what type of lens is being used.

8. Housing - A camera's housing is the container or cover surrounding it to protect it from elements such as weather.

9. Infrared Camera - These types of cameras have special infrared lights around the outside of the lens and can capture pictures even in complete darkness.

10. JPEG - JPEG stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group." This is the standard way of compressing photographic images.

11. Pan-Tilt-Zoom Camera - Pant-Tilt-Zoom or PTZ cameras allow you to use adjust the position and focus of the camera with a remote control. They can be fairly expensive.

12. Plug and Play Cable - These types of cameras have three wires built into one with attached connectors.

13. Remote Surveillance - The ability to view your cameras from a remote location. For example, if you own a store and have place cameras in that store, you can view the images from your home computer.

14. Resolution - Resolution basically tells you how much detail your camera can see. The higher the resolution, the more detail that can be viewed.

15. Smart Search - This feature of digital video records allows you to search for changes in an image over time. If something is stolen, you can fast forward to and search for the point in time when the item disappears from the camera's view.

16. Switch - A switch takes multiple camera inputs and shows them on a monitor, one at a time, or allows you to view a particular input at a time.

17. Transformer - Transfer energy from one circuit to another, inductively coupled wire coils that effect such a transfer with a change in voltage, current, phase, or other electric characteristic.

18. Video Input - This is a connection that allows you to plug a camera into a video controller or recording device. You can connect as many cameras to a device as there are input devices.

19. Weatherproof - Any camera described as "weatherproof" means that it can be placed outside and not, for the most part, be affected by harsh weather or extreme temperature changes.

20. Wireless Camera - Wireless cameras transmit video and audio via waves instead of wires.
